ericskiff says: How walkable is your place (or that dream house you've been thinking of)? When Sara and I look at getting a place, not needing a car for every little errand will be high on my list of wants. Very interesting; my house came up at 50 out of 100. At least the beach is still just 5 minutes walk away.... Wow, clipette and I are 94 out of 100. I guess that's mandatory considering we're in car-less NYC. I'd probably trade my 94 for your 5 minutes from the beach Tallulah Interesting and useful... too bad addresses outside the US aren't supported vy well. Hopefully that feature is added soon. Mine scored 82 out of 100, but then in the listing of businesses it named a bunch of places I'd never heard of. Not sure where they're getting their information about business locations. too bad addresses outside the US aren't supported vy well. Hopefully that feature is added soon.I'm in Kent, UK and in seemed to work well for me...except for leaving out the Beach five minutes down the road........!! Adamc - don't envy you the city, I lived in and loved London but there's nothing like an ice cream and a stroll on the beach at the end of the week to chill out 88 for my residential Boston neighborhood. Sounds about right. The killer train factor probably brings it down a few points, I imagine.... Kore, don't forget about the menacing turkeys. That should knock off a few points too. I think Walk Score is a service that can be especially useful for those who are going to buy a house but haven’t chosen the region yet. I ve tried but my score was rather low, about 25. But how often do we walk nowadays? People go by car much more often i think. At http://drivescore.fizber.com/ is possible to get your drive score and see how close establishments are by car. I ve tried and this time my results were much better. Kinda neat, but they left a lot of things out around my house. Such as a Wal-Mart supercenter, Wal-Mart grocery store, McDonalds, JCPenny's, Subway, IHOP, Radio Shack, Lowes, Home Depot, Popeye's, and probably a dozen other places I am forgetting right now. There is a lot of growth in this area, but the Wal-Mart has been here for years and replaced a regular Wal-Mart. The McDonalds has been around forever too and is still located in the old Wal-Mart's parking lot. The Home Depot is new, but it was open before the Starbucks which they did have listed. |
