Yes, of course. What is meant by stepping back is more about looking, remembering, not forgetting those who came before and lived a slower life that was good. That set an example of the possibilities. History exists for us to avail ourselves of the successes that came before, honor them, not make the same errors and move forward to a new understanding that progress is good when all things are considered. That includes the past, the present and the future.
