We have a lot of homeless people here too. When I first moved to where I am now I never saw a pan-handler on the streets or homeless people sleeping wherever they could find shelter. That was in 2000; now there's beggars on most street corners up-town and when I go to my daughters in the early morning there are so many people sleeping in alley ways and wherever they can find shelter. What is really sad is that there are families with small children living like that. I have been homeless and it terrifies me.I will leave my car running with me in it in my garage before it happens again.Whatever you may have been told about the homeless or "beggers".It doesn't matter.Give them the dollar even if you think it's for booze.2 degrees and it happened to me so anyone could wind up homeless. I fought very hard to come back,but I was strong and healthy.Until you are there,you will not know the fear these people live every day.A lot of places won't even let you pee.It's the hardest thing I ever did. Thanks for the comment swampfoxz. Many times we think of the homeless as being subhuman or animals, even if we try very hard not to let that happen. I think that happens with any group of people we can't relate to, even the excessively rich. Thanks for making the story even more relateable. You're right, even about the alcohol thing. Who am I to deny him/her possibly their one pleasure, especially if it helps keep him/her warm. I don't really think that is what they should spend the money on but it is certainly understandable if they do & it isn't like I've always made the best decisions financially.
