That was 60 years ago; 60 years of the Republican Party pushing fascism and the Democrats letting them get away with it with compromise after compromise. Liberalism is few and far between in the Democratic Party now.

It's nice to dream of how great things would be if Mike Gravel had won in 2008; an actual leftist (albeit a moderate one) as US President for a change!
