This is disgusting! Animals can't control what or how much they are fed. They would normally burn off a high calorie/fat meal with exercise but since some of the owners keep them as house pets, the animal never has a chance.

The REAL Napster
They say pets are like their owners. I'd say that's the problem right there.

Arthritis is a serious problem too, for overfed pets. Sore joints and an aching back makes life miserable for fat pets. You can exercise even indoor cats though, by making them work for their food so to speak. Hide their food in tiny portions in hard to find places around the house to encourage activity and so on. That's good mental exercise for them too. Play with your pet! That's the best exercise for them ever.

We are currently pricing some fencing to go around our back yard so the dogs can get out and run everyday.
As it is it's a chore to get them enough exercise and any chance they get they will bolt and not come back for awhile. We got them when we lived out in the boonies but we were forced into a rental in town due to money issues. Landlord said we can erect a fence but there hasn't been enough money to do it. We are buying it 1 roll and two posts at a time. We are going to try to fence in a 1/2 acre for them.
In the mean time we take them to parks and they each have a 40ft wirerope runner that we tie them to.
We use an alway full feeder and also supplement raw meat and bones (Thanx animal talk naturally) We love them like family.

I too love my Pitbull like she was a daughter. I make her food (brown rice, veggies, etc) and mix with dry. When I got her she was a scrawny 41lbs. She is now a healthy 68lbs. She is spoiled, no doubt. BUT, I make sure she gets enough exercise to maintain weight. She already had a joint problem and this new diet has mended that problem inside of 6 months.

You can love your pet and make sure they are healthy at the same time.

I just clipped the site for Animal Talk Naturally - Its a podcast by veteranarians on the care and health of your pets using natural processes and remedies.
There is information along the rt side of the page on RAW feed diet. Its not as complicated as some would believe and we are using it as a supplement at the moment. Depending upon how the costs work out it may become the primary feed method.
Right now our local butcher is just down the street and he saves us bones from the day. The girls love them and I have noticed a better sheen on their coats along with more perkiness in their step.

Our fatso lab started gaining weight after she was spayed. The other three had no weight gain after spaying, I'm not sure what caused the gain but we are working on that too.
Our youngest lab got hit by an idiot when she was a pup and the doc said her leg wasn't broken but she still favors it. I think its psycological. When she forgets about it and plays it seems fine but afterward she whines. Doc said there is nothing wrong in there tho.

It's much harder to make homemade food for cats to get the mineral content just right. This is very important for cats. Cats are extremely diet specific and it could be detrimental to their health, if you don't get it just right. For dogs on the other hand, it's a very good idea to make your own food for them. Then you know what they are getting is healthy. With all the contaminated pet food around lately too, this is definitely something worth considering.

Oh yeah! What I meant to say was, that it is extremely important especially regarding cats, to follow their diet recommendations "to the letter". Proper good quality pet food diets are comprised specifically to address their needs regarding f.ex.minerals. Urinary tract diseases and stones are sadly also very common and high on the list of diseases that kill cats. Cheap bad pet foods and bad diets.are a major cause of these conditions. It's important people don't "cheat" with the recipes.

Some people treat their pets like children. Dogs treat their owners like an alpha member of a pack, and become like their owners through imitaion. A problem with dogs can be similar to one people have, that snacks and leftovers that can seem insignificant, but amount to a substantial portion of the diet that is not included in calculation. There is pack rivalry which can mean a dog will eat more food than it needs to prevent it being eaten by another dog. Before giving a pet anything it is easy to check the ability of the pet to digest it safely on the net.
As with people there are healthy nutritious, and tasty alternatives to some of the things we pretend today are food. A dogs diet doesn...
