arifsali says: My hope is that a religious consciousness will begin to rise, one based on enhancing humanity.... Bishop John Shelby Spong "Less fear", certainly. "More faith", is that not a cause of the problem? More love in faith - true Christianity - might be the way to go. My hope is that a religious consciousness will begin to rise, one based on enhancing humanity, grasping life in all of its complex wonder, having the courage to live fully, to love wastefully and to be all that each of us can be and that it will express itself in our national life in more earth centered, justice enhancing and humane ways.I don't get "to love wastefully". Can some one help me? It seems out of sic with the rest of these fine ideas. Theologically I hope voices will rise in and out of the politic... That would be nice. Progressive. @boniface Great article. And I'd have to agree with it. I think science will eventually weed out superstition. But the core of it is in fact faith. It was supposedly god that told bush to invade Iraq. That our casualties would be small. I guess god was wrong. And so often is god wrong when it comes from ideology and people alike. There is no self correction mechanism of faith. That makes it a terrible problem. |
