AtlLiberal says: The small clip from the end of an article from India brings up an interesting point that is largely ignored in the US. In some regards it is reminiscent of the "don't ask, don't tell" policy enacted by Clinton in the 90s in regards to gays in the military. How about following Mom's advice: If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. This may look good embroidered on a pillow but reality views such simply minded aphorisms as denying the facts of the world. If a being is all-powerful, why would this being be afraid of someone questioning his/her existence? Sounds to me more like it is a person, rather than a deity, that is offended here. But if people are offended, then this same people must be afraid their deity of choice is not strong enough to overcome this questioning. Which shows how much frail their faith really is in the end. Now tell me something that is dear to you...a treasured belief or tradition and stand by while I ridicule it and you, insult your intelligence, your education, your family, your lifestyle. It doesn't feel good. People like this are lacking in manners, common courtesy, and tact. What's worse, is it doesn't just stop at words: it escalates to violence often and is the cause of wars, genocide, rapes and slavery. So, while it may look good on a pillow, it might also just be what's needed to stop the hatred so common in the world. IMO Now tell me something that is dear to you...a treasured belief orI'm not exactly clear on who you are addressing here. And who insulted you? I see comments related to ideas. It doesn't feel good.Your point is? People like this are lacking in manners, common courtesy, and tact. And you know this how? I've seen no one attacking you personally as you just have. You're blaming someone in the ... Alt: My point is: whether religion, race, creed, ethnicity...doesn't matter. If someone (anyone - person, group, government, etc) singles out any other person, group, religion, race, creed...it hurts the recipient. I was not claiming personal insult, just a general comment that wars, etc... have started because people have no idea how to live and let live. And let's face it - you've read and written comments that can be taken badly - whether intended or not. Having an opinion goes both ways ( or six ways for that matter ) and no one should have to constantly defend their beliefs on any subject. So my comment about saying something nice or not saying anything at all is exactly what I meant. Even in today's world. And let's face it - you've read and written comments that can be takenI suggest that if one is not ready to defend their beliefs they should keep them to themselves. If they are put forth in a public forum then they are indeed open to criticism and argumentation. But why can't I just have my beliefs? Why is it necessary to criticize and debate? Why not just state your beliefs and be done with it? But why can't I just have my beliefs?Where has anyone said that you are not entitled to your beliefs? This is a straw-man. Why is it necessary to criticize and debate?Well, it's not actually necessary but it does provide a certain amount of entertainment and mental stimulation. If you don't care to engage in debate then I'd suggest keeping your thoughts to yourself. As I've stated many times in the past, there is no reason that ideas are out of bounds for debate, satire, ridicule, or mockery simply because they are religious. Why not just state your beliefs and be done with it?Because certain beliefs have historically been shown to be pre... |
