sohil says: Hi Guys (and Gals), Long time no clips. Ok (like I told ericg) school started and I barely have time, so unfortunately Clipmarks had to wait. Anyway its no secret that I'm totally interested in politics. So I decided to run for SGA President (Yep President). So tell me What you would've changed in your school in 9th grade or What changes you like to see in school today. One change at a time Also if everything goes right Clipmarks will have a spike in traffic (in the long long long term). I won't tell you how just yet though P.S. There are more clips (and ideas regarding clipmarks) I've saved. So Stay Tuned. Sorry, Have a bunch of Bio. Assignments due on Friday (Yes this). So Later. Take Care More emphasis on discussion and true understanding instead of memorizing crap for tests. When i was in 9th grade i didn't take time to appreciate the opportunity to learn about the world. Instead, i was too focused on getting good enough grades. I'd love to see schools find ways to make learning fun (kind of like it is hear on clipmarks). Also, more time to play sports 1: UNIFORMS. With uniforms in place (paid for by the state) you would - remove alot of what makes kids group together by social class. - remove the problem of 13 year old girls looking like they belong in the latest Christina Agulaira video. Helping to remove sexual tension from the classroom (good ofr otehr stuidents, and thier teachers). - remove issue of having to send kids home for waering innapropriate cloths to class/school. Many schoolls already ban anything that would be concidered gang clothing, or shirts with slogans that might be offensive. 2: FOOD Remove all junk food from schools, this includes grossly unhealthy lunches from the cafeteria. Junk food would not be allowed to be brought into the school either. - CLINICALLY proven that removing sugary/fatty foods from schools shows a dramatic increase in average test scores, large decrease in absentees, and large decrease in trouble caused by rowdy students. - removed the bad example for kids on choosing foods to eat. We can't preach that they should eat healthy when most schools don't offer ANY form of healthy snacks. - Proven to help reduce the waistline of students. The worst part of junk food in schools is that the kids eat it then SIT in classes for 3-4 hours afterwards. where does the energy from the sugar/fat go? 3: PERSONAL ELCTRONICS Remove all perosnall electronics from classes. Kids these days have cellphone, mps players, even blackberrys/sidekicks. Unless required for the course, all personal electronics (with exception of laptops at teh discretion of the teacher) should be banned from classes. Leave them in the locker. - My little cousin (well, she's 15) told me that it is the norm for kids to take cellphone calls in class. Some teachers will boot them out, but some are so resigned to the fact that they have lost the class, they don't bother, they simply move those kids to the back of the class. PS: pardon my awful spelling. I usually spellcheck with onenote and it's dead atm.. Cat Whisperer unfortunately, I can't do much about those issues unless I have a voice in the Board Of Education but I agree completely. Ericg, I hear you loud and clear Hmm taking Cell Phone calls in the class. Wow, the teachers advice us to turn them off (then again the classes I take aren't exactly representative either) Sohil, I think I'd do my best to make students read more. Unfortunately, reading habits of the young generations are in decline in last 20 years. So I probably would try to make the school library more attractive for the students; maybe I'd establish a book club and reading groups; organize periodical discussions and debates. Publish a in-school magazine (or newspaper) prepared by the works of the students and some guest writers. Youngsters should have hobbies. It's our hobbies who help us to learn many things and have fun. So I think it would be a good idea to establish some "clubs" in school: cinema club, music club, literature club, computer club etc. Maybe I'd try to make the school's w... Nice ones invictus. We have clubs right now, but you've just give me an awesome idea. How would allowing students to choose groups (with teacher supervision and approval of course) to meet their needs. Thanks. Here in Texas; remove the damn TAAKS test! Students spend their days studying to pass it rather than actually learning anything productive. The teachers hate it, and are starting to find creative ways around it. I agree with banning electronic devices in the classrooms. I disagree with uniforms; this age is all about individuality, and if you think they don't find ways to stand out or establish cliques even WITH the uniforms, you haven't been paying attention. It's a false sense of security for school administrators who don't want to mess with the political correctness of making judgement calls on enforcement of dress codes. |
