I want to be cynical because our current history has lead me to be this way. I hope this man is serious with his words, because if our leaders are not, we will be at the mercy of something the majority of us have never even read about. It's high time someone became passionate about our safety and security.

I think we're all wondering when we're going to defeat them. Doesn't matter what political part you associate with.

It does matter what side of the fence you are on.
One side wants to defeat the enemy, the other wants to retreat from the enemy. I'd say that matters a lot.

I think everyone WANTS to defeat them, they just disagree if it's going to happen in our lifetimes or whether we will just be passing the mess onto our children.

They thought the same thing in WWII, The Germans and Japanese were considered unstoppable by many.
The American people (most of them) figured out a little late that there was a real threat and finally took action. Only when the people were UNITED in their resolve and goals to defeat the enemy did this occur.

The difference is, in WWII, it was easy to tell who the enemy was. They were wearing uniforms. In Iraq, they blend into the crowd before they blow themselves and everyone around them up.
They weren't religious fanatics who wanted to become martyrs.
They people from surrounding countries weren't recruited to join the Germans with the promise of sitting on God's right hand.

That describes the enemy pretty good in my book. And while the 'enemy' may not be 'conventional' due to lack of uniforms, they are a threat nonetheless. One of the Marine creedos is: "Adapt and overcome". We have identified the enemy, now it's time to adapt and overcome. The problem is that many disagree on 'who' the enemy really is.

America will probably never be safe, you put yourself ahead of every other country and there citizens, and this breeds resentment and hate. 3000 people died at the hands of foreigners so your prezident and you invade the countries that facilitated this, murdering tens of thousands of poor, innocent civilians, and creating more misery for the less fortunate. Americas actions on human rights for prisoners of war is shocking, and it thumbs its nose at the UN and other international agencies trying to create peace, harmony and equality for citizens of the world. Perhaps America needs to reconsider how it sees itself interacting with the world, and you wont have to feel so insecure and scared.

I guess it matters which war you want to compare Iraq to. I believe Iraq is much more like Vietnam than it ever could be to World War II.

Afghanistan was the war for 9/11. Iraq was regime change and a war of choice by the Bush regime.
