AtlLiberal says: A thoughtful article about the notion of Christian privilege and using this to justify anti-gay prejudice. And before some get their pitchforks out, no, it doesn't apply to all Christians. But there is a sizable chunk of Christians who probably do hold these views. The sizable chunk is growing. As the Bishop in charge of research to find why British people are no longer attending said, education is taking people away from the church. the Knights of Columbus are currently running full page ads in the Hartford Courant protesting a proposed Connecticut law permitting same-sex marriage, on the grounds that it would violate people's religious freedom to refuse to rent housing to same-sex couples (they use that example explicitly!) Aside from obviously being tone deaf to how the outside world sees their crusade (what about violating people's freedom to refuse to rent housing to mixed-race couples?) is this really the best thing they could find to do with their money? As much as I'd like to think that you both are over stating specific examples I'm afraid I can't. It's quite sad. What is this world we are living in? Where is the tolerance that as a nation we were so proud of ? A sit happens, old world England and Spain are more advanced in thought an action than the USA. we are a sexually intolerant and handicapped nation. Why should one care that people of same sex want to be in marriage contract??? Should gay people deny services to straight people when they are on the other ends just because they don't love in the same way??/ |
