ouyangwulong says: Romney says McCain was wrong to vote against Bush's tax cuts. If he really believes this, then he is not a true conservative. What is the truth about Bush's tax cuts? Bush slashed the revenue of the US government to help rich people get richer. This means the government has less money to spend. But he is the greatest spendthrift in the history of American Presidents. So who is paying for all of Bush's spending? It isn't Romney, who is getting millions back in tax cuts. It's the Chinese, who are buying US Treasury bonds to gain power over the US. Look at the numbers. the Chinese have almost literally financed the Iraq war. A true conservative spends money when he has it, and when he doesn't, he works for more. Bush's extravagance has sold our economic independence to a rival nation. Does this sound like treason to you? Because it sure does to me! McCain is a patriot and a man of principles. I respect him. Romney is a mindless politician who doesn't understand what he is doing. Why does Romney back Bush's tax cuts? Because he understand what they do? Because he thinks that's best for America? I certainly hope not. I don't think he thinks at all about the political verbage he spews. He's just trying to win debate points, not standing up for something he believes or understand. These days the only point of politics is to get elected, not to actually represent ideals or work for the people. If we let people like that win our votes, then our system is beyond repair and it's time for a new one. Perhaps the grand democratic experiment is gradually drawing to a close... Naw, things never really close. They just change. And Change is what we need now. Fortunately, it feels like we just might get it. I can guarantee you this: establishment candidates are suffering. It's the year of the outsider.I'd put heavy money on BIG changes in the White House for 2009. Or, on the other hand, consider this prescient analysis of the current situation... I don't know what the world needs now If things do not change they will remain as they are. On the other hand, if they change they will be different. But seriously, to focus on the issue of taxes, different means survival. To stay the same is certain economic collapse. The UN has repeatedly warned the US that its deficit is dangerously large. It is now at 67% of our GDP. This is gigantic, and almost unheard of among developed countries. This is Elton John-league credit spending. I'm always confused by conservatives who only talk about cutting taxes. Aren't conservatives supposed to be fiscally responsible? Perhaps we should consider the difference between terms for conservative. Conservative could generally mean three things: 1. The opposite of Liberal. (Right vs Left) 2. The opposite of Progressive. (Reactionary vs. Radical) 3. The o... I mean, heck, when it comes to money, I'm more conservative than Bush! I work hard for my money and spend only cash. I don't know why conservatives don't get it: if you want to spend more money, then you have to get the money first. If you cut taxes, you have to spend less. Of course, the Republicans would love to cut government spending, but only in areas like Education, Welfare and Medicare. The parts of the government that do nice things for American people. (Not all, mind you. Huckabee, for instance, has an admirable commitment to the arts and education funding.) And here's the problem, cutting education funding won't make up for military spending. My high school desk cost about $25... It would be like if I tell my boss: don't worry, I don't need such a big salary. Why not cut it in half? Then I go and buy myself a nice Swiss watch. Where's the money going to come from? Oh, no problem, I say, I'll tighten the belt in other areas. I drink 10 cups of coffee every day, why not cut it down to five? The next day I'm feeling a little sluggish, without my coffee, then I'm walking home past the Audi dealership and see their new R8 sports car. Great, that should put some bounce in my step! But how will I pay for it? Well, no problem, I already gave up 5 cups of coffee! Any way, if I have that sports car, I'll be able to impress the daughter of an Oil Titan and marry rich! But in ... Oh, by the way, I'm using a "editorial" you, meaning all of us. Don't anyone take it personally. I should probably cut down on my caffeine intake... Astute observations. ... both clips Thanks Austin |
