Now, I believe it is the third definition that lies at the root of what reasonable republicans like to call "true conservativism." I don't always agree, but it's something I can respect.

Now Bush and Romney are conservatives in the first sense, in that they both antagonize the left and shill for the right without thinking about what they are saying. Blind politics for its own sake.

Bush and Romney are also conservative in the second sense, in that they are reactionaries nostalgic for some imaginary past and fearful of the future. In this sense, Bush's taxes are conservative, in that they are a throw-back to the 80s, and by that, I mean the 1880s.

But what about the last definition? Bush reduced the revenue of the government while increasing spending. If Republicans want a war in Iraq (and make no mistake, they did, oh so badly.) Then they should have the common sense to pay for it, rather than financing it through debt to a communist dictatorship with a bubble economy.

We have not only endangered American sovereignty, we have inflated the Chinese bubble economy and destabilized the global economy.

It's not Voodoo Economics, it's Suicide.

I don't know why conservatives don't get it: if you want to spend more money, then you have to get the money first. If you cut taxes, you have to spend less.

Of course, the Republicans would love to cut government spending, but only in areas like Education, Welfare and Medicare. The parts of the government that do nice things for American people. (Not all, mind you. Huckabee, for instance, has an admirable commitment to the arts and education funding.)

And here's the problem, cutting education funding won't make up for military spending. My high school desk cost about $25...

Of course, the Republicans would love to cut government spending, but only in areas like Education, Welfare and Medicare. The parts of the government that do nice things for American people. (Not all, mind you. Huckabee, for instance, has an admirable commitment to the arts and education funding.)

And here's the problem, cutting education funding won't make up for military spending. My high school desk cost about $25. A Humvee (without armor - surprise!) costs $50,000.

It would be like if I tell my boss: don't worry, I don't need such a big salary. Why not cut it in half? Then I go and buy myself a nice Swiss watch. Where's the money going to come from? Oh, no problem, I say, I'll tighten the belt in other areas. I drink 10 cups of coffee every day, why not cut it down to five?

The next day I'm feeling a little sluggish, without my coffee, then I'm walking home past the Audi dealership and see their new R8 sports car. Great, that should put some bounce in my step! But how will I pay for it? Well, no problem, I already gave up 5 cups of coffee! Any way, if I have that sports car, I'll be able to impress the daughter of an Oil Titan and marry rich!

He just scored big on moving a shipment of "China White," and he's got piles of money that he won't need until he's looking for another fix. I'll just borrow the money from him! What could go wrong?

Now if your minister looked at my life, what would he think? Would anyone say I was conservative with money, just because I was living on a lower salary? Or would people say I was the most amazing f***ing idiot of the century?

I really don't know how we can see this situation any other way. Don't let greed get in the way of politics. If you want to save this country now, you'll have to cough up a few more tax dollars to get us out of the hole.
