WOW!
Now they are trying to brainwash our children.
I wonder how the teacher would grade the test, when the children put the right answers down.

And the far-right complains about indoctrination in schools. I guess the only good propaganda is our propaganda. That is also why the fear institutions of higher learning. I can only imagine a college freshman babling such nonesense in the classroom. The look on the professor would be priceless.

When the truth is too terrible to admit to, make something up? Please don't let this become the new American way.

I hate to say this, but that has always been the American way.

Not my country. I merely endure its power like everybody else in the world.

What age is 6th grade? 12 or 13. I'm a great believer in truth even the brutal truth as you may already know. HOWEVER, you could destroy the whole trust/belief of a child if you dumped the truth on a tender kid. For what purpose? So they know the truth?

Think SEX. If you were having your first talk with your child on this subject that they DO have to know, would you give him/her the whole shooting gallery of anus, BJ, gay, on that first introduction? Of course not!

Even if you still wanted to, how would you? Can you make sense of it all? Your president is a very bad man, maybe a criminal. Sure they'll believe you next time that you tell them that there are no Zombies. Maybe if there were Zombies and no neo-Cons the world might be safer?

True, but you don't dump this kind of thing on impressionable minds. It makes it harder for the, to learn the truth later. This is not like Sex or Santa Claus.

Comparing revisionist History to sex-ed is bogus. The truth should be taught in History class. Of course whoever writes the books is gonna say it's the truth...But i remember the bullshit they threw at us when i grew up in the 50's and 60's about Native Americans.
I had to re-educate myself at age 20. High school, Jr. High and Elementary were basically a waste when it came to History.

I think once you start hiding the truth, it's a hard habit to break.

History is written by the winners and if one looks at the state-of-the-world, the neocons are winning.

The kids can get the same propaganda watching the History Channel or the Military Channel.. A big part of growing up is unlearning the crap you learned as a kid.

When I was about eleven or so, a scoutmaster read my troop a piece of "Russian propaganda" (presented as factual) which described the Boy Scouts as an organization devoted to indoctrinating American children into animal totem worship. It turns out the piece was actually a bit of satire which had been published in Mad magazine (I was suspended from meetings for a month for pointing this out - Boy Sprouts weren't supposed to read deviant literature).

We might as well let our history books get written by right-wing versions of the staff of the Onion.

Everyone makes sense. So what to do. Write a version distilled down to the absolute facts, with additions with time.

This will lead to a dehumanization of history and a consequential dilution of interest in the subject. I remember only becoming interested in history when it was taught with a human element.

There's a lot of difficulty in Japan and Korea about this. Japan believes it was an equal right to rewrite its version of WW2 just like others.

Jojor should have gotten a merit badge for that!
