zasel says: This is where the hysteria caused by government overreach begins to infringe on individual and constitutional rights. I certainly believe that all reasonable actions should be employed to keep us safe, but common sense and decency has to be considered in doing so. The terrorism watch list should not be used to discriminate or intimidate people who voice opposing opinions from our government, or who participate on peace marches. Hell, aren't these two of the rights we are claiming to be fighting to protect in our wars in Iraq and Afghanistan? The Bushies and neo-cons have gone hog wild and they just decided that their own beliefs permits them to use the Constitution as toilet paper. I would be interested to see a transcript of this man's speech. If it were anything like Ward Churchill's essay, justifying Al Qaeda's attacks, and promoting more of the same, I would understand this move. If not, this is pretty insane. If it were anything like Ward Churchill's essay, justifying Al Qaeda's attacks, and promoting more of the same, I would understand this move. Are you saying you think Ward Churchill ought to be kept from flying? No matter what kind of rhetoric he's used, I kind of doubt he's going to set off a bomb. Is this supposed to make people safer? Or is the point just to punish people who say nasty things? Absolutely. It's not just a matter of saying nasty things. People have the right to say what they want. Unless, of course they are advocating violent attacks against their government. Also, the airlines as businesses have the right to refuse to let certain people fly. If I were president of United, and Ward Churchill was saying that people are justified in using commercial airliners as weapons against civilians, you're damn right I wouldn't let him fly. Welcome to post Patriot Act America. See this clip for more Thanks for clearing that up. appreciate the references, enbar. |
