This is related to the research of some epigeneticists on NOVA tonight. Famine and other environmental factors do affect the person who experiences them and several generations into the future.

Overlooking other facts are we?

How Much food is wasted in richer countries i.e. Supermarkets, Resturants, at home etc......?

There's plenty for the world to share healthfully!

I believe its been shown over and over that there is plenty of food on this planet to feed all. It's the cost, or worse, the lack of profits of feeding them that is keeping people starving.

Money is hardley an issue when it comes food, food can very easily be distributed fairley without the need for money. A good Phrase iv'e heard is:
"Only when the last tree has died and
The last river has been poisoned and
The last fish has been caught,
Will we realise that
We cannot eat money"

But food is not distributed fairly because it is all about money. There is the cost of harvesting, the cost of transport, the cost of "tolls" as the food passes through various areas of control, and the cost of distribution.

Today we see only a fraction of farmers in the United States compared to how many farmed 100 years ago and those farmers are often paid NOT to grow food in order to maintain a market in which they can make a living.

It's all about the money. And when food production seriously does not keep up with world demand then who do you think are going to be fed first? Those with money. The rest? Well, its a self balancing system.
