I finally made it up to the Agate House in the nearby Petrified National Forest Park. where there is nothing but the hot wind, the painted desert and this small 8 room pueblo built out of petrified wood.

I like the desert. I like it's sense of timelessness, a sense of eternity and yet it's geological evolution is incredible. Triassic dinosaurs populated this area when it was part of the inland sea.

I was thinking: 65-68 million years ago but the ranger said it was 225 million years ago. Crocodile-like reptiles called Phytosaurs, 40ft(12m) long are the most common fossile in the park.

Visibly rock in the Grand Canyon is more than 2 billion years old.
