It's an ostrich that wandered onto the set. Urban legend.

The thing that you guys are talking about IS a bird. BUT A MUNCHKIN DOES KILL HERSELF IN THE MOVIE!! it is in the scene when Dorothy first gets to Munchkinland. Watch the top left hand corner, right above the dude's hat when she gets in the horse and carriage. You can see her swing back and forth. and in the full frame, you can see the rope and everything. CHECK IT OUT!!!
ME AND MY FRIEND PROVED THAT IT DOES EXIST!

Okay, Ive seen this scene many times and Actually bought a Copy of the 1939 Wizard of oz its not in color its just black and white now notice if you have the movie skip to this part.. before this scene when Scarecrow and Dorthoy find Tinman and get him to move and talk you can see to the leftt a LARGE bird its a Crane but 2 more scenes later when Tinman is dancing you no longer see the Crane, in the 1939 version when TinMan Dorthoy and Screcrow are singing" We're off to see the wizard this same BIRD the Crane is in the background there is no proof or documentation of any Munkin Hanging in this scene Some people have thought it was a man who was hanging lights but he fell and the rope he was ...

Also the Scene Wiccantexan is describing is when Dorthoy is invited into the carriage with the Horses, I know what your thinking theres a rope tied to the munkins neck the truth is shes not hanging, First off if you anything about gravity, if she did hang herself she wouldve jumped from the house above her correct? Well then she wouldve gone straight down,, in this scene shes hanging you wouldnt do that and if you did swing you wouldnt be swinging that violently.. also when she is moving back and fourth she will suddenly stop, normally if your hanging your body wont stop itself shes moving her feet back and fourth to the beat of the background music,, also in this scene theres no documentation of any hanging munkin...

also, for the girl hanging in the munchkin scene, some one would have noticed a girl hanging

There is no suicide in the Wizard of Oz. Regarding the bit where the girl is "swaying back and forth" - she is dancing. While being suspended on a noose, gravity would not allow you to "sway" the exact same distance back and forth consistently without slowing down. Furthermore, there were a number of munchkins in her area - some behind her, some right next to her, and some in front of her. If there were a suicide going on, why would the munchkins present continue dancing, without reacting in some way?

Regarding the above video, to suggest, especially after viewing a closeup, that what you're seeing is somebody: A) hanging themself, and B) kicking the stool, or whatever prop they used, out...

Ok, I'll start off by saying that there is no evidence regarding this subject. As for the munchkin hanging them self in the scene they first meet the Tin Man, It is a crane. You can see it walking around while the Tin Man is danci

Ok, I'll start off by saying that there is no evidence regarding this subject. As for the munchkin hanging them self in the scene where they first meet the Tin Man, It is a crane. You can see it walking around while the Tin Man is dancing around and Dorothy and The Scarecrow are whispering to each other. Behind them, you can clearly see it. And as for the scene with the female munchkin hanging herself, it's not even plausible. There are way way too many people surrounding the person in question. Me and my brother paused and stopped the movie numerous time at both times to see if it was true, which it is not. When I was younger I thought this rumor to be true, but now I realize it's just a myth.

i dont believe this is an actual person committing suicide, but i do no believe that it is a bird.
just look at the picture. no bird looks like that with long "hair" and "arms". it could possibly just be another character wondering around where they shouldnt. im not sure but as of now it is a mystery. who knows, maybe someone really did kill themself.
