thisnamecantbetaken says: Without 9/11 there would be no "War on Terror". Without 9/11 there would be no "clash of civilizations" Without 9/11 there would be no war in Afghanistan. Without 9/11 there would be no war in Iraq. Without 9/11 thousands of U.S. troops would not have been sent to their deaths. Without 9/11 hundreds of thousands of citizens of Iraq and Afghanistan would not have been sentenced to their deaths. Without 9/11 there would be no inaction on the Israeli-Palestinian peace process. Without 9/11 there would be no civilian contractors in Iraq and the scandal that has followed. Without 9/11 there would be no false military reporting (Pat Tillman, Jessica Lynch), and no crack down on the freedom of the press (banning photos of the returning coffins.) [i]Without 9/11 there would be no Patriot Act. Without 9/11 there would be no NSA warrantless wiretapping program. Without 9/11 there would be no Camp Delta and no Camp X-ray at Guantanamo Bay. Without 9/11 there would be no Military Commissions Act and no coordinated program of extraordinary rendition, indefinite detention and torture of those defined as "enemy combatants". Without 9/11 there would be no vast increase in secrecy and complete militarization of intelligence under the newly created office of the Director of National Intelligence. Without 9/11 there would not be thousands of dead and dying emergency workers who are suffering crippling and fatal respiratory illnesses. With... But we've got em - now, perhaps, they are the problem, and 9/11 was just an excuse. POP for TN's great comments! Aww, I'd love to take the credit, but it's copy/pasted from the article...but I do totally agree with all of it. . As do I!! Boy! Lots of mixed messages. I did like the point, though, that we don't need to know specifics about 9/11 to put Bush on trial for war crimes. Approval of torture is a war crime and there is documentation of that. I'd recommend focusing first on facts that have documentaton that can be used now for war crimes, regular crimes (like the misuse of the Justice Dept. to prosecute political enemies) and civil crimes and violations of our U.S. Constitution. Once trails like this get going there is also good chance that other things will spill out, perhaps about 9/11. But let's get Bush in jail as soon as possible. There is, too, a problem with 'conspiracy theories." Then tend not to go anywh... Uncovering conspiracies starts with theories. Irangate,Watergate,S&L scandal,Enron? I don't care who this prof. Zinn is, but his point of view is simply zinnical, to say at least... Zinn was one of the first pilots to drop the experimental Napalm in France on the retreating German troops AFTER WWII was officially ended. It changed the course of his life from being a champion of war mongers to a champion of civil rights. The reason you don't know who he is is because he has been blocked from corporate media for more than 40 years, as have many others who value the words of the Constitution. I think it's funny how people lift up 9/11 and want no one to speak ill of the tragedy the victims endured or to lessen the significance of the day. Yet, at the same time, not having even a mournful thought, much less speak out against, the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and Afghanis being exterminated in their name, especially in light if the fact that the 9/11 terrorists had nothing to do with Saddam Hussein or his country. |
