The nation is also preparing for an eruption of Mount Merapi
in Java.

It's been releasing little bits at a time but there has been some activity that has them concerned enough to evacuate along with earthquakes around the neighboring area.

Merapi has been spewing out ash and gas since the end of May; and there has been a lava flow and debris thrown from the crater down its slopes recently. Technically, this IS an eruption and the evacuation of surrounding villages has already begun. But in fact, most geologists worry for a "big one" that would come abrubtly anytime with a huge destruction force, affecting not only the nearby villages but a large part of the island. The preparations are being planned, considering both the present activity and a possible big eruption. No one can interpret now, when and how big could the next big eruption be.
