einbar says:
Researchers at the University of Iowa find that men increasingly are interested in intelligent, educated women who are financially stable — and chastity isn't an issue

Another notable shift involves the significance of chastity:
In 1939, it was valued more than intelligence in women, but in 2008, it was ranked the least important characteristic. Furthermore, it also was ranked the least important for men. This, coupled with the shared top-three ranking for both men and women, suggests a commonality that seems positively modern-day.
So, never ever marry a virgin?

i'm afraid that real men prefer inteligent ladies but moderately -so not to outsmart them; 'financially stable' - well this just gives them more freedom to come and go as they please (men i mean), with no responsibility about the other person's existence; 'chastity' not an issue - maybe is true, but for sure they don't want a woman to fool around with others when they are developing a relationship.....well, what do scientist know....

I think it shows that there have been improvements in equality of sexes. Still a way to go, but as long as mums have education, the kids will grow up with healthier attitudes.
Good clip einbar.

Call me old fashion (but buy me one first) I think there's a lot to be said for chastity, or at least for the ideal of chastity. Just because it's almost impossible to find doesn't mean it has lost it's worth. I resent, once again, that men seem to be the ones calling the shots here. Why should they determine what qualities are valuable in a women? Why not allow women to decide the value of their own self worth.

men will only call the shots for as long as women allow it. deep down most men know that they are the weaker sex.

Miad20 - you hit it right on the head! However, I have preached to all my daughters and grands to Never let a man control you through money. If you "have your own" then this never becomes a power issue.

I resent, once again, that men seem to be the ones calling the shots here.
I agree Chestnut501 ... but we still have a ways to go in this department. lifecyce1898 has the right answer!

And last but not least ... Amen tabsey

Great clip einbar. Thanks.

I think in the study men didn't "call the shots." It's the take of the journalist who wrote the piece - or maybe just the copy writer who wrote her headline - but the study appears to be an equal inquiry into what women want and what men want.

Good clip!

Here's the list of each. It's rather startling how similar they are:
WHAT MEN WANT
Essential characteristics:
* Mutual attraction and love
* Dependable character
* Emotional stability

Important characteristics:
* Education and intelligence
* Good looks
* Ambition

Desirable characteristics:
* Good financial prospect
* Good cook and housekeeper

Unimportant characteristics:
* Similar political background
* Chastity

WHAT WOMEN WANT
Essential characteristics:
* Mutual attraction and love
* Dependable character
* Emotional stability

Important characteristics:
* Education and intelligence
* Desire for home and children
* Ambition

Masbury, I believe you're right. The article is not nearly as bias as its title.
