A state task force wants to repeal no-fault divorce and "encourage" mothers to stay home. At least one member of said task force publicly proclaimed that divorce is a way for Satan to undermine society.

Children raised in a household where MOm and Dad don't get along doesn't help them.

And why can't Dad stay at home? Men are just as capable of raising children as women are.

I don't know about Satan's influence, but I agree that divorce is too easy.

Religion aside
Marriage is a commitment to your best friend.
If you have a family, It becomes a commitment to your own genes.

First rule: Don't get married unless you are ready to commit your life to your friend.

Marriage and lies don't work.

If you check, you'll find that more "red" and bible belt states have higher rates of divorce, out-of-wedlock births and teenage pregnancies. I guess that's a testament to conservative and religious "family values". Interestingly enough, Massachusetts, home of gay marriage, excoriated as being a bastion of liberal and anti-family values, is in the bottom 10 in all three categories.

Baptists, who try to position themselves as stronly in favor of "traditional family values", have the highest divorce rate of any religious group, outstripping atheists and agnostics.

Had my own marriage ended in divorce, at least I'd have the comfort of knowing my wife was still alive and well.

Should it be the other way around, because of drugs and abuse, families break down. I mean its not like these things did not happen before, except that women (mostly but not always) and children (always) suffered in part because they where trapped in hateful relationships. Marriage is not a cure all, and while divorce in itself can be painful, living nightmarish lives its worse.

As someone who is divorced I would like to just throw out there that at times there are more pitfalls to being in a traditional family. Sometimes the traditional family is destructive and children have a better shot at growing up better adjusted outside of that traditional family.
