pokkets says: We can't predict the weather, yet solutions keep rising as to how we could 'fix' the weather. Most fixes also threaten 'side effects' that promise to be more complicated than the original problem. We seem to pretend we can dictate terms to nature, when it is clearly the other way around. What a bunch of freaking morons. There was a news report last night about these new energy saving light bulbs...the news report said they may be dangerous, causing mercury poisoning, among other things. I don't know if this is true or not but does point to the difficulties in changing life styles, weather, whatever. Certainly getting electric cars seems like a good idea and higher oil and gas (petrol) prices are helping that along. I agree with willhelm Yes, there is mercury vapor in those light bulbs, but we've been using mercury vapor lighting for decades. They need to be disposed of differently. As I see it, they are a short-term item - one step along the way to extreme energy efficiency. The only other option would be to continue using the old, high-energy-consuming incandescent bulbs. Now we're moving in the right direction. |
