"What if they gave a war and nobody came?"

When I was a work-study student at Indiana University, Bloomington, in the early 1970's, the professor I worked for put a poster with that same anti-war slogan on his office door, inside our laboratory. One morning soon afterward the grad students and I entered the lab to find that someone had proudly embellished the poster with the defiant words, "The janitors will be there!"

The sobering realization hit that there were people in our world who didn't understand the message and therefore would not allow peace to be waged instead of war.

The professor sadly removed the poster from his door.

And here we are today, thirty-six years later, bogged ...

And here we are today, thirty-six years later, bogged down in two more unwinnable wars, with a third one threatening to erupt soon, thanks to the warmongers and fearmongers in the White House and their allies. War after war being given, at unfathomable cost of lives and resources and peace of mind.

Will the janitors always be there to clean up the carnage of war? To fight when no one else wants to? To continue to believe in war at all costs when peace is so much saner?

What if they DID give a war and nobody came?
