My point is that in the past war was waged against countries now we wage battles against small factions where there is no clear victor as anyone can pick up the torch and continue the fight. What further complicates the matter is that these small factions intentionally fan out their organizations across numerous city-states so the nation or ideology that they’re fighting against has to walk a tight-rope of keeping the peace with the sovereign nation they’re “temporarily” invading or risk war with yet another party.

This is guerilla warfare on steroids.

while these are great points...you have to ask how you talk peace to a group that wants nothing but the extinction of Jews. Only so much diplomatic ground can be covered, especially when you know they have no qualms about going back on their word.

While it is sad that Lebanese citizens are also paying for the crimes of Hezbollah, it is in part the Lebanese governments fault this is happening. had they abided by the resolution put frward by the UN years ago and truly abolished hezbollah, and the Syrians as they said they would, when they had the power to...this would not have become the issude it is today.
You say attacks are going to happen but if we keep pushing diplomacy during these attacks things will span out and make all happy....but thats just wishful thinking. I think you're going a bit far to say they want the extinction of all Jews. Their attacks (kidnapping soldiers) are probably more on the order of, "F* you Israeli scum!" But this is supposition on both our parts.

As for the second part of your statement I'd reword it to read, "Only so much military ground can be covered [...]."

Why? Because Hezbollah has "operational cells [in] Europe, Latin America, and North America." (1) There's literally no way for Israel to win because the organization is globally diffused. Stating the obvious, this is why guerilla warfare is so effective against a nation because a country is fixed to a given place where a militant cell is not.

The only reason the Israeli government is waging battle against Hezbollah in Lebanon is to push them as far back as possible so they as an organization can't shell the northern border of Israel. It's also a show of power, but as the article we're talking about points out unless the show of power is overwhelming (ie victory) the conflict will continue.

So we have two avenues. Attack and kill every Hezbollah insurgent in Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas (or near as possible); or negotiate.

I'm not so sure this is true....think about who funds this party of terrorists. Iran and Syria being the contributors of Hezbollah they are going to do and work as Iran and Syria would. I'm not so sure this is true....think about who funds this party of terrorists. Iran and Syria being the contributors of Hezbollah they are going to do and work as Iran and Syria would. Secondly, if you concede and give them their cease fire and diplomatic talks (which is basically saying ok Terrorists you win which will only fuel their fires and empowers them more) they are just going to continue the attacks on top of recieveing what they want from the world. These terrorists do not understand weakness, or bargains, they are brought about for a goal and a reason so trying to stop them in these goals is pointless the only way to stop such is by destroying their infrastructure and allowing the rest of the group to crumble which can be achieved. But it cannot be achieved by doing a half ass job and calling it a victory, or by diplomatic talks, or warning, or a slap on the wrist....it can ONLY BE ACHIEVED by destroying their will, and their support, , and their mainframe.
