The little-understood storms may be sparked when rock fragments, ash, and ice particles in the plume collide to produce static charges—just as ice particles collide to create charge in regular thunderstorms. I should pay more attention, I just clipped the same thing. This clip is much more informative than the one I made (but mine is funnier). I would love to see these storms in real life, from a distance of course.
