My daughters would find this shocking Oh, I know full well that my parents are human. I do remember being a little shocked when my grandmother, a year after my grandfather's death, wondered out loud why she hadn't been asked for a date yet. She and my grandfather had been married for 55 years and had gone through many hard times together, including the Great Depression and his debilitating respiratory illness (from age 30 on) which kept them from achieving any kind of financial security. When he lost his eyesight to glaucoma ten years or so before he died she became even more of a caretaker than before. Now I realize that she was probably very lonely for ... Acquiring knowledge is a wondrous thing Gingembre. I remember when my oldest daughter was about 13 years old, I mentioned to her Dad that I had missed a period and she overheard us talking and exclaimed "Mother, you aren't pregnant, are you? How could you do this to me? |
