Of course, the president might look to his fellow Republicans, some whom are among the worst offenders. According to a report by Taxpayers for Common Sense, Republican Sens. Ted Stevens of Alaska ($773 million in earmarks) - he of “bridge to nowhere fame” - and Thad Cochran of Mississippi ($502 million) are among the most successful sponsors of pork. A Democratic king of pork, Sen. Robert Byrd of West Virginia, was reduced to third place in the survey. In the House, Republicans Bill Young of Florida and Jerry Lewis of California are at the top of the heap.

The bill contains over 8,000 earmarks

This should really not be acceptible but any idea that all these come from Dems alone is a non starter, both parties are as bad as each other when it comes to their "pet projects"

Personally i would have all of them removed from the bill with instructions that they be submitted separately, spread over the year. then we will see who is doing what with our, sorry, your money.
