Lemme quote Scrooge when reminded of the plight of the poor:

Are there no prisions? Are there no workhouses?

When told many of the poor would rather die than go to a workhouse he replied:

Then they had better do it and decrease the surplus population

Imagine how, well, Republican his views would have been today; heck, tough love, whoops, I mean shit baby.
