I was once chased down a driveway by a gull that appeared to me to be the size of a doberman. It was a funny sight - me screaming and running in high heels and a dress. The gull was sitting in a dumpster behind a restaurant feasting on meat.

well just like rats and crows (and even pigs i guess)....they clean up after us. look at...was it Egypt? to see what would happen if they weren't around.

This reminds me... Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" is getting a remake.

Magpies swoop too. They'll rip your hair out, if they catch you, the buggers. I know this from experience.

When we were flying kites at the beach a pelican got caught in our kite line. We freed the bird, but while it was on the ground... wowzer was that a big bird. Giant!

@lollipop--- not sure. IMDB just says it's in development but set for release in 2011.

They are rather smart as all predators are including crows and able to figure out vulnerability of particular situation to take some kind of advantage. Or even miscalculated danger from passerby, Like in your case, TN, probably. Hope it ended up well...
And pelicans, those are huge birds. Did you see how they plunging into the water for a fish? That is impressive!
