I've experienced it without doubt.

Me, too. I think that older women experience even more age discrimination, unfortunately.

On a lighter note: Happy Birthday, Eric!

My mom is having a hard time getting another job and she thinks her age is the problem. You'd think that companies would want experienced, more mature people instead of younger ones who don't know what they're doing.

Older people are more wise to the world and are less easily manipulated by many employers who seek nothing more than trained monkeys to do their bidding.

I'm now a (mostly) retired old, HR Executive. But at one time I was a young corporate compensation professional. It might sound discriminatory, but the least expensive human resources for an organization are young, single women. Older married men with families need more to support their households and practically speaking you have to pay them more. Older empty nesters have reduced financial needs, but they have been used to getting well paid and sometimes expect more than organizations are prepared to pay.

It isn't alwa...

That is true of course, but it is also true that they are the ones that are most easily manipulated, and of course disposed of as the need arises.

The purpose of running a company is of course to provide goods/services, and at the same time make a profit. In many cases though the desire for "big bucks" has created a situation where the emphasis is on cheap, easily trained labour, to the detriment of older people .

Once upon a time a companies most valuable asset was a loyal workforce, now "the workforce" is simply something to be used and manipulated for big profits.
