willhelm says: These quotes are from 30 to 35 years ago during the last wave of climate alamrism, when they were unanimous. Interesting, they had to change their tune though. It's much easier to argue that humans are causing "warming" then they are "cooling". Because the information in this 6 minute video could be much more quickly absorbed through text, here is the evidence presented to prove that the global cooling hypothesis was widely accepted by scientists: Time article citing geologist Reid A. Bryson (suggesting[ing] that dust and other particles released into the atomosphere as a result of farming and fuel burning may be blocking more and more sunlight) News report citing Dr. Cesare Emiliani ("Man is doing things such as industrial pollution and deforestation that have effects on the environment") [url=http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/abstract/193/4252/447]Damon and K... Here is what the video left out: "Some scientists like Donald Oilman, chief of the National Weather Service's long-range-prediction group, think that the cooling trend may be only temporary." From the very same "Another Ice Age?" Time article Charlson, Harrison, and Witt letter in Science challenging Rasool & Schneider's conclusions More things the video does not tell us: * The Damon and Kunen article does not indicate that there was a scientific consensus that global cooling exists--while they cite scientists who advocated that global cooling had occurred, they had to cite Newsweek--not a scientist-- as an example of someone talking about the catastrophic consequences of global cooling. (they also cite scientists who argued that global warming was occurring BTW) * Stephen Schneider, whom the video made fun of for being a proponent of the global cooling hypothesis in the 1970s and for being a proponent of the global warming hypothesis now, was also part of the effort to successfully challenge the global cooling hypo... I'll leave this to willhelm, I'm tired of banging my head against a wall. |
