Berlin is an amazing city. i visit this complex city twice b4 & after the wall. i find Berlin a tantalizing metaphor 2 our nowadays society culture & humanity. attractive intelligent creative and yet divided by a WALL of prejudice ....

  got to the Ku’damm, West Berlin’s premier shopping street, it was 10-deep 
  with East Germans unable to believe what was happening and pressing their 
  noses against shop windows to marvel at the long-denied goodies inside. They 
  wept as they were given flowers and bottles of Sekt (sparkling wine) and 
  embraced by their equally incredulous western cousins. There were even 
  cheers for the lines of exhaust-belching Trabants that had been greeted into 
  the west as conquering heroes.

  staging the party to end all parties on top of the Wall, cheering wildly as
