It never has happened, but <A target="_blank" href="http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/books/335152_nobelliterature12.html">Doris Lessing just did</A> and she also happened to be the oldest person to ever receive it and probably the only Iranian-born Southern Rhodesian who will ever win it.</p> <P>While <A target="_blank" href="http://www.dorislessing.org/">Lessing is not exclusively a science fiction writer</A>, she has written several books that are tinged with fantasy and near-future themes. However, <A target="_blank" href="http://www.dorislessing.org/canopusin.html">her five-volume Canopus in Argos: Archives series</A> is an interstellar tale that is unmistakably science fiction.</p> </DIV>
