From what I understand, Hamas still insists on maintaining the right to violent confrontation with Israel over disagreements, rather than pledging to seek a non-violent peaceful settlement. Israel has already said they will not negotiate with such a coalition. And as much as I abhor the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories, I cannot blame Israel for its reaction to this announced coalition.

To stop something, there has been a low grade civil war between the two factions for about six months. Call it an inter-Palestinian cease fire.
