Indeed, it seems many on the left derive some kind of perverse pleasure seeing Ahmadinejad taunting President Bush and his policies

I have visited this site regularly over recent months and have enjoyed the fact that there are seldom vehement tirades aimed at anyone. Comments about Ahmadinejad are regular and never positive, but related to his actions and support of anti-invasion groups.
He visits the US, because that is where the UN is, and all of a sudden the haters become vociferous. The papers are only on about money, not politics. Look how willing one was to run anti- Petraeus ads. ( One paper isn't a true example, just as Ahmadinejad is only one Iranian.)
To me the question is, "Why all the vehemence when he is visiting the UN/US and yet not before?"

"...there are seldom vehement tirades aimed at anyone."

Glad to hear that's true of the clips you visit; not so true elsewhere though.

I think the "vehemence" is coming now, because he's here...on our soil...in one of our colleges. Most of us who distrust the man can handle him making threats, accusations, promoting our destruction, parading his planes with "death to America" on their sides...over there. Most of us believe the invitation to speak was a big mistake, as would have been allowing him to go to Ground Zero. For those on the left, he has become a symbol of our intolerance. He will use all the images his visit and speeches have produced as propaganda against us when he returns...
