JohnWaterman says: Museum of the History of Science, Oxford Nice collection, great clip. @ JohnWaterman - I am very appreciative of this clip as I worked in a laboratory in the field of Metrology, instrument repair and calibration. This is a really interesting clip. Thanks. That snuff box slide rule has some deep down geek going on. Great clip, John. Capri, as a calibrationist, you would have loved to see the Ernst Leitz optical test bench in Wetzlar, before they moved to Solms. It was in the basement of the building, and that basement was carved out of mountainside bedrock. As I recall, it was considered at the time the most precise mechanical instrument in the world when I was there in '85. They made it themselves to their own spec. I'm confident Carl Zeiss would have taken exception to the claim. @BB - Thanks for the info. I will try to search out and see what I can find out. |
