Christmas is a Christian holiday, the President is a Christian.

The President is the head of a nation without an official religion. He's not an ordinary private citizen.

Side note: Barbara Walters is also Jewish, though her father is now an atheist. Pretty cheeky for Bush to send her a Christmas card filled with scripture either way.

"Does this also go to agnostics, and atheists, and Muslims?"
So what?
"Don't you think it's a little interesting, that the president of all the people is sending out a religious Christmas card?"
No it's not interesting, not even little. You are an idiot, Barbara. Grow up.

So he can't send a Christmas card? Why?

You send out Christmas cards to people who would appreciate them. Obviously Barbara isn't one of them, for whatever reasons. It's a hollow gesture for a sacred occasion, if you want to go the "he's just a person sending out cards" route.

When exactly did freedom of religion get changed to freedom from religion?

There is nothing wrong in showing your heart to others by sending them what you like and care most about. If others do not appreciate then perhaps it is their problem. As a non-Christian, I certainly wouldn't mind getting a Christmas greeting cards, nor would I expect others to reject mine based on what is closer to my heart. A little religious pluralism can work both way, even including the atheists and pagans (no offense).

But here we're talking about Christmas cards, not bible. It certainly would bother me if President of the United States starts sending out bibles to others, including Barbara Walters.

One is a feel good joyous occasion, other carries conscious or unconscious hidden intents.

arifsali, it was filled with Bible verses. What's the difference?

As for receiving Christmas cards as a non-Christian, I don't object either, but then, the people who send them KNOW I don't. Barbara DOES object, and that should be respected. She doesn't need to "grow up," she's an adult with an opinion as to the appropriateness of this.

What happened to his PR person?
It does show some lack of thought not to consider the background of the person who is getting the card.

When did Ms. Walters let anyone know that she didn't appreciate getting Christmas cards?

Acts 20:35(KJV) I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

Now, because she's never had the need to do so before. Previous cards did not apparently contain Scripture. Do you give a pre-emptive statement for every possible thing that might come your way?

Holy shit (pardon the pun) but is there any wonder that there's conflict on a global scale when such a non-event of a Christmas card is enough to spark off intense debate?

arifsali had this spot on with his remark:

"so what?"

Seriously, people, you gotta draw the line somewhere.

My catholic friend received a card from me this year which said "Santa thinks you're a knob head",
he is deeply religious but thoroughly enjoyed it because he has a sense of humour, could see I had spent time thinking of him and wanted to wish him well in the new year.

Ok, I'm not exactly the President, and I see the point Barbara Walters has, but he could have sent her a box full of dog shit... so everyone just shut the f**k up and get on with it.....!
