Lexica says: More: There are men who will read this post and think, huffily, dismissively, that a person of color could write a post very much like this one about white people, about me. That's absolutely right. So could a lesbian, a gay man, a bisexual, an asexual. So could a trans or intersex person (which hardly makes a comprehensive list). I'm okay with that. I don't feel hated. I feel mistrusted—and I understand it; I respect it. It means, for me, I must be vigilant, must make myself trustworthy. Every day. It is, instead, born of the multitude of mundane betrayals that mark my every relationship with a man—the casual rape joke, the use of a female slur, the careless demonization of the feminine in everyday conversation, the accusations of overreaction, the eyerolling and exasperated sighs in response to polite requests to please not use misogynist epithets in my presence or to please use non-gendered languageThis drives me nuts. I still hear men and women reinforcing negative stereotypes about women. Great clip! I am right behind you lexica, I am not a man hater, but do hate the way they have absolutely no respect for women. Just today, I was introduced to what I thought was a nice man, I gave him a smile and he grabbed my but in a sexual manner and held on, I had to kick him to make him let go! such disrespect disgust's me! butt great clip... as my kid watches cartoons, i am sadly aware of the breadth and depth of the acculturation that we ALL face which demeans women, reducing them to their appearance, helplessness, and lack of importance i don't hate men either. i hate the systemic oppression that reduces others into stereotypes ... if we could all just see the ways that we are each privileged in some contexts and oppressed in others and then remember not to inflict others when we have the power we'd all be better off This clip could have easily been misconstrued as hating men. http://clipmarks.com/clipmark/EA9C07FE-E5A8-42A9-81A5-D6B2E1CBECEA/ But it wasn't about that at all. Kelso said it best: i hate the systemic oppression that reduces others into stereotypes ... |
