righthand says: Under Bush, the independence of the surgeon general has been placed below industry lobbying and the demands of the religious right. The Bush White House banned Dr Carmona from speaking or issuing reports on stem cells, emergency contraception, sex education, prisons, mental health and international health issues, he has revealed. For years, the White House also tried to "water down" a key report on the dangers of second-hand smoke, he said. When it was published last year , the report stated that even brief exposure to cigarette smoke can cause immediate harm. This is a well known fact not exclusive to the Bush Administration. I respect the "position" of office held by the President of the United States. At the same time, I am in total disagreement with the policy and practices of this Administration! Isn't it true that Bush has no real power? He is merely a figurehead...a puppet, if you will, of a mechanical and maniacal machine set into operation years ago. It really is out of our hands now...as Americans. We elect this "official" to act in our behalf, however, once the "baby-kissing" phase of election is over...we the people are in no way able to steer the wagon...to drive the machine. Despite gargantuan screams and public outcry fo... Mack said. "All we did, from the point of view of democracy advocates, was raise unachievable expectations and behave in a hypocritical manner." I concur with Mack. It makes me ill! He is a figurehead, but he still has quite a bit of power. I think that allot of the "unbalance" of his power in office comes from the lack of our citizen's participation in politics. The politicians will continue in whatever direction they "fell" is right unless enough people make their voices heard. Of course there are many other reasons as well. From my view, it appears that a very inexperienced person was elected to the highest seat in our land intentionally or unintentionally is running this country into the ground. Time will tell. Dr Carmona testimony to a congressional panel comes as the administration tries to appoint Dr James Holsinger as the new surgeon general. He stirred controversy with a report that concluded that homosexual sex was both unnatural and unhealthy. Even the Special Olympics were deemed politically suspect, because they receive considerable support from the Kennedy family. "I was specifically told by a senior person, 'Why would you want to help those people?'" Dr Carmona testified. During a nine-month trial of the US tobacco industry, Dr Carmona was heavily leant upon not to testify. The same went for sex education: "However, there was already a policy in place that did not want to hear the sci... Mushmaster25: I agree with you to a point. You have a "voice". I have a "voice". Righthand has a "voice". Should we ban together and vote on who should form the Committee to vote on how to execute our collective "voices"? I'm being sarcastic. YOU tell me, because I want to know, how a citizen's lack of...or participation in...politics is going to add up to a rat's ass now...if even the Surgeon General of The United States of America cannot effect a significant change in diddley squat while he's in office? Sincerely, Devil's Advocate Part two: I think everyone should have a gay Friend! Mine are great! They have the best relationships...abound in happiness...and are wickedly funny.... YET it seems like a huge freedom, compared to factory farmed animals. check out the healthy Incredible Contortionist! hmmm, this is a terrible thing, but it is not only a problem with this administration, but with many previous ones as well in succession, I wonder which administration started this precedent? |
