masbury says: Unannounced, they pass out bags of chicken to surprised recipients at Chicago's St. Columbanus Church. "It makes me feel very special,"It's true... The Obama family serves as a good role model for the rest of us. All who volunteer to help at food banks are to be commended. This is the first time since I was a child in the 60s that I can remember genuinely admiring a president or thinking one to be a role model. That is change, indeed. When I heard they had done this, I thought, "You know, maybe I could do that, too." Take heed that ye do not your alms (give to the poor) before men, to be seen of them; otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. Therefore when thou doest alms, do not sound a trumpet (or call the press) before thee, as the hypocrites do....that they may have glory of men. Verily I say, they have their reward in full. Do you think Obama invited the media there? It was an unannounced visit. No "sounding a trumpet" here. Pretty hard for a president to do much in secret. Sounds like, from the article, that the press following the motorcade was unaware of the plan. But again, being a prez, you can't go anywhere without a motorcade, and the press are gonna see the motorcade, and you have the choice between doing nothing at all or doing something in public. Seems unnecessarily critical, BR. By the way, if Jesus intended for no good works to be done in public, he didn't measure up to his own standard. He must, then, be talking about something deeper, rather than just the external appearance of it. |
