I think that many of us do this. For example, when I see a house with a vast manicured lawn I know that if I were to live there I would either be unhappy about the upkeep (time, money and labor) and environmental costs that entails or I would become the kind of person who values a large manicured lawn so much that she is willing to sacrifice time, money, labor and the environment in order to live there. When I see a house with a natural or wild garden and lots of trees and a pond and a dog or two in the yard I sigh and imagine how it would be to live there: who lives there, and am I a similar soul or do I just imagine that I am?

I often wonder why people choose to settle where they do and become who they are. It seems to me that some folks either never reconsider their choices or are unwilling or unable to expand their horizons. Others of us end up reinventing ourselves, moving to a different country, state or climate and pursuing a new vocation or avocation. We humans are curious creatures, aren’t we?!
