Thank you to my friend Daniel, who has done community organizing from Harlem to LA to Boston. Thank you to Biko Baker of League of Young Voters, who I once interviewed and was immediately impressed by. Thank you to Saul Alinsky, largely considered the father of community organizing (pictured above). Thank you to all of you I don't know, who every day, make the choice to listen to ordinary people's stories and help them link these stories into a template for honest-to-goodness social change.

And, yes, thank you to Barack Obama, for making the choice to be a community organizer so many years ago and for continuing to be proud and loud about the importance of the role of the community organizer for our nation's well-being.

I've gotten more education about America in my years as an organizer in Chicago than I ever did in a classroom.

Pontius Pilate was a colonial governor appointed by the Roman government to try to maintain the status quo in a troublesome district.

Jesus was/is the Son of God, Prince of Peace, Lord of Lords, the Word, etc...etc...etc.

No comparison.

Hey duli, I've got a friend here in Iowa who works for, I think, Center for New Community, which is HQ'd in Chicago. He's a community organizer especially focused on health issues among hispanic laborer groups here, working under a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson foundation. Ever come across the CNC?

I'd be interested in learning more about how your work works. Is there a website I could visit? If you don't want to mention it here, you can send an email from my blog.

It bugs me too how pro-McCaconites portray community organizing like it was terrorism or communism...

....ranting how Obama read Saul Alinsky or did work for ACORN.

They seem to not understand the premier value of Free Speech and Free Organizing and Freedom to read anyone's book --- and also try to condemn Obama or others based on associations rather than the man's own words or actions.

If you're not promoting violence you can do and say what you want in this country. Folks who don't like our freedoms are the ones who should get out.

Since we started the War in Iraq, based on deliberate lies and fabrications, it seems a lot of foreign words and ideas have started to impinge upon our cult...
