How can Scotty beam Kirk up anyway, there is no up in space, on the enterprise, and a planet, maybe. A space ship might look like it is above a planet, but it can also be under it at the same time. How come 'Kirk' passed a spell check while Scotty didn't ? Anyway most of the time Scotty was too busy pushing the warp engines over the red line to worry about beaming people up much.
