clip-on-tie says: Hot damn, that's some Ghostbusters-style action there. I was in Marin a few years ago. The sky was bright blue and much less dramatic. The photographer captured an incredible shot. I love to watch lightning. Recently, there was a segment on National Geographic, on a new technique for filming lightning in slow motion by someone named Tim Sammaras. Using a special ultra high speed camera (10,000 frames per sec.), to capture the entire path of the lightning strike was no ordinary accomplishment since lightning travels at the speed of 186,000 miles per second. Until this technique, lightning always appeared as an instantaneous flash, in its entirety. But with high speed filming, it revealed the dendritic display as its tendrils proceeded downward to its destination and the return stroke. You can see it here: Lightning Strikes! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wY_t7zVIXY I love storms. Would love to have seen this in person. lollipop, Marin is in San Francisco. Very nice place... Oh okay. I know a couple up here from San Fran. They teach at the university. We met because when my kids were little i managed to get them into the university daycare, which is where (as professors) they had their kids. It was really funny because the names of their kids are almost the same as mine, as is their ages, and even their order! Anyway, very nice people. I would actually love to see San Francisco, it looks like an amazing place. Thanks for letting me know Clip-on |
