pokkets says: The city near Detroit Ann Arbour, is replacing traditional bulbs with white LEDs, which last an average of five times as long, and the energy saving will be the equivalent of taking 400 cars of the road. LED is the way to go . I know in a lot of states are using LED traffic lights, and they are powerful, I mean blinding bright. Your sitting at a traffic light and it is red, then all the sudden it turned blinding green, so bright it's hard to see the road at night because you've been blinded for a few seconds til you pass the bright light. Sorry I had a flash back. lol Good clip ! Hmm. LED's are far more efficient than basic incadenscent lightbulbs, but as I understood it, you get more lumens per watt with sodium halogen bulbs, the ones currently used in streetlights that cast that pinkish-amber light, than with LEDs. Nice clip pokkets. Ah, I was just out for a walk on Sunday night, looking at streetlights and thinking there must be a way to do it with LEDs. Now if they would just focus these rays more efficiently as well...every backyard astronomer hates "light pollution". It's no wonder much of the fascination of the heavens is fading, cuz the heavens are disappearing under the glare...not to mention causing night blindness while driving as mentioned. Rustee, all my outdoor lights are LED. They are a brighter, white light, but they do not seem to cast as much of a glare. It may have something to do with the fact that they are all close to the ground. However, I find that if I do not look directly at the lights my enjoyment of the night skies is not all that bothered by them. I live away from city lights also. |
