Thanks for clipping this. I heard the headline on the news all day, but I keep missing the story. Very exciting news whenever unknown (to us) species are discovered. The taxonomists are working overtime to find all the unknown species in the tropical regions before the forests are gone. It is theorized that many species living in the deciduous rainforest on the Atlantic coast of North America were destroyed as the forests were cut down and settled, but some extinctions were documented, like the North Carolina parakeet. Luckily, remnants of the Pacific rainforest still remain, and maybe there are more species to be found there. |
