Emergency measure to pay for the war. Well like anything else that originates in Congress we are still paying for the 1943 war. Like everything else that brings money into the federal government this will never disappear.

Perhaps we need to elect another Andrew Jackson as President! One who sees the evil of excessive taxation on a free market society. What are the chances?

Taxes finance a large of the budget today. Can you even imagine the economical fallout that would result from abolishing the income tax?

Ya elect another Andrew Jackson so that he could push United States into more corruption, push the nation into an economic crisis etc

That large portion of the federal budget goes to pay social programs. Social restructuring if you will. Taking money from those who work to give it to those who do not. This practice of redistributing wealth from the working class to the non-productive class is counter productive to a free market based society. Those who support such redistributions of wealth look to a socialistic society as an ideal to strive for. The only problem with this view is that truly socialistic societies do not function.

The bulk of the government spending goes directly to the Pentagon/Security apparatus. That has been the largest and most consistent zone of growth in the last 60 years.

If those tax payers having taxes withdrawn from their weekly paychecks, had to come up with it quarterly, as self-employed tax payers do, there would be a huge hew and cry. Self-employed tax payers never try to pay more than what their final year-end tax bill is. They know waiting for that big refund is allowing Uncle Same to play with their money and not give them any interest. Weekly wage earners never figure that out. The government would really get trim & lean if everyone was put on the quarterly payment plan--it would sure cut wasteful government spending in all agencies, not just the Pentagon!

Right along side this large portion of the government budget is the same amount of spending on domestic social engineering programs. National defense is a power granted the government by the constitution and I strongly support a strong well equiped national defense. I want us to have the biggest, fastest, most technologically advanced weapons systems known to man.

My comments concerning the social programs still remains as a viable discussion point. If we cut out all social spending we could spend more on n...
