Many areas have not had power or water restored. Entire neighborhoods, and subdivisions. There are no street lights or police to sufficiently patrol the areas. Employers have left. Anyone who has had to wait an entire year just to get their names on the rolls and properly documented for funding, has found housing and employment elsewhere. When I do get my funding, there is a remote to no chance at all that I would waste 2 months sifting through mold risking my life and health to try to salvage possessions.

They have been forced to admit things hidden from most residents like how low the city actually was. Most people's appraisers for flood insurance list houses at a few inches below sea level at most. The true numbers totally disqualify most people.

The school system was broke or bankrupt most of the time. There was a yearly meeting of politicians trying to figure out how to reduce "attrition" rates (attributed to people who wanted to leave badly). Local residents were scared to go to the French Quarter during Mardi Gras even though the tourist always went to the most dangerous and rowdy part of the celebration. Local residents more so stayed on Claiborne, Canal or the parade routes, and would depart from the downtown area after the truck parades between 12 and 2 unless they attended the Neutral Ground picnic gathering, which was limited.

The City was suffering from severe termite infestation and still is.

It would be cheaper to rebuild the entire city up river at a different location and "give" everyone a house than it will cost to make the city acceptable for those who live there now.

Since so many people have not received funding there is contamination that will not and cannot be removed and disease is brewing.
