righthand says: "The Soviet submarine K-172 under the command of Nikolay Shashkov armed with missiles and nuclear warheads was at the very same moment in the Bay of Sidre. The submarine received instructions to surface and deliver a blow against the Israeli coast if the Americans landed troops on Syrian shores. The submarine had eight nuclear missiles on board. However, as we know the Israeli coast means the whole sate of Israel stretched along the sea. Israel would have been completely destroyed if such blows were delivered by the Soviet submarine." "I wrote about Nikolay Shashkov; the publication was called “The Man Who Was to Destroy Israel.” The publication produced a strong response from society. I received inquiries from the Israeli Embassy, and many journalists wanted just to see the man who was to liquidate the Israeli state." Pravda? LOL! More than a good read, thanks. Sources I have found thus far say it was an accident, nothing less. Based on the fact that it was an American ship is unfortunate, to say the least. However, we all know that friendly fire ...isn't. It was during a war (albeit 6 days) but since when has modern day war never had friendly fire accidents? According to the book "The Puzzle Palace" (a history of the NSA written by James Bamford), the issue was closed by President Jimmy Carter accepting an Israeli government offer of $6 million in damages for destruction of the vessel; this book also indicates that the surviving family members of crewman affected by the incident had to work out a civil settlement of approximately $3.6 million w... We were at a loss to understand why the Israelis would devote so much planning and resources into sinking a US navel ship. Nothing made sense, not the Israeli murder of Egyptian POWs nor UN troops. Not until Vk2yoc produced this source in Pravda, did it make sense. Do we really how close we came to WW3 due to an Israeli hair brained madness of sinking a US ship? If this had run its full course then the total nuking of Israel might have been the outcome. But then I wonder if we might now have real peace in the world. The ability to keep th... I'm hoping now that this incident that has more than intrigued me for a decade can laid to rest. Unfortunately,it is not so easy for the survivors and the families of the dead. Let down by their government for the pleasing of the perpetrator is putting it mildly. Where are those that scream for JUSTICE now. Previous USS Liberty clips by me include... Ask the peanut farmer why he accepted 'blood money'. I dare you. |
