On the eve of the G8 summit (July 8-10 in L'Aquila), the No Dal Molin organization is inviting people from all over Italy and the world to celebrate the Fourth of July in Vicenza and "declare our independence from the US military, freeing the land from the presence of a new war base."

July 4th is the holiday with which the people of the United States celebrate their own independence. This year it will also be the day on which Vicentines, and all those who support peace and defense of the common good, declare their own independence from military servitude.

I could never understand why the US still has to have bases in countries all over the world. It's like in some cases the US came in to help but forgot to go home when they were no longer needed or in some cases welcome.

And since no other country can have a base in the US they have no business building them anywhere other than in THEIR own country. They even have bases in Canada, and I would love to see them closed down... they don't serve any purpose.

Hi, the comment of an italian in roma: bombs are a strange way to bring freedom... do you know how many tons of bombs you leaved in italy? we have a lot of family names clearly of war times, for unknown children...and today in sardinia there is a land used for chemical weapons... near villages... imagine it in your land and think about it... I know a lot of americans are good people as anywhere in the world but americans don't consider enough the foreign policy of people that are using their flag... I hope my words don't sounds with hate... my english is a very personal thing... have a good 4 july
