Surprise, surprise.
I was amazed when the present govt gave it's policies before the last election. There was no mention of the aged at all. If the response to my email was any guide, they were not too phased about it. ( Maybe they will give us the right to decide when we have had enough of this life.)

I just read a piece yesterday, written by a senior who is extremely angry, about the way the elderly are being treated (and cheated):

His piece ends with this:

"SENIORS, FIGHT NOW OR YOU WILL SURELY DIE, HOMELESS, HUNGRY AND IN PAIN."

They realize they too have been pushed out of the way.
When I finished work, I asked my health insurers ( who I'd been with for 20+ yrs) what my rates would be. I was told they would increase. I went ballistic but did no good. So I dropped the insurance. We can't afford it. The govt will have to pick up the full bill. The worst thing is that we have been deserted by the Labour party. The Liberals could be expected to forget the elderly, unless they are rich.

The world has becoming much more of a "dog eat dog" kind of place, it seems, since I was a kid and the most vulnerable are the very first to feel it. The poor, the sick, the elderly and children. It'll only get worse, I reckon.

It seems everything is being done for the young people with the potential to earn big bucks. In Vancouver where they are currently constructing Olympic Village housing there are a certain number of suites that were to be designated as being for low-income earners, but due to cost over-runs they think now it can't be done. Construction on housing for seniors hasn't even been considered and what there is now is not being maintained. When I turn 65 I will lose my disability coverage. My pension will be far less than what I get now with no extra benefits.
